For those of you that know me personally or have read my “about me”, know that I’m from Oklahoma…and darn proud of it :).  For the people that have never been there or don’t know much about it and want a crash course in “Okie 101”, here goes:

  • We are southerners (‘South Central’ United States to be exact)…..(except for maybe the 20 people that actually live in the panhandle, & they would be westerners) and for y’all that don’t know exactly where it is on a map, Texas is to the South, Colorado & Kansas to the North, New Mexico to the west, & Arkansas to the East.
  • Home to some of the friendliest people you will ever come across
  • Football is a pretty big deal
  • Country music is a way of life
  • Oklahoma is known as “Native America” & I’m a registered Cherokee Indian
  • I grew up on some of the BEST bbq, hamburgers, southern food, & mexican food you can eat (I’m pretty sure our state flower is fried okra)
  • Route 66 & the “Trail of Tears” make their way through the state
  • Geronimo, Will Rogers, Chuck Norris, Brad Pitt, Bill Hader, Ron Howard, James Marsden, Kristin Chenoweth, James Garner, Rue McClanahan, Megan Mullally, Olivia Munn, The All-American Rejects, Garth Brooks, Eddie Cochran, Vince Gill, Hinder, Toby Keith, Reba McEntire, Blake Shelton, Ronnie Dunn of Brooks & Dunn, Carrie Underwood, Phil McGraw (Dr. Phil), Walter Cronkite, Sam Walton (Wal-Mart founder), Waite Phillips (oil tycoon), Troy Aikman, Mickey Mantle, Barry Sanders, Lee Roy Selmon, Jeremy Shockey, Barry Switzer, (and many many more) are all Oklahomans
  • Last but not least, and my favorite part….the homes!

I’m not actually sure why, but there is a HUGE European & English influence in the style of homes in Tulsa, which is where I’m from and it’s definitely where my love for homes & design began at a young age.  I mean, I don’t know many kids whose idea of a good time was house hunting, except for maybe me haha.

Wood beam ceilings, casual yet elegant style, French Country, Italian, English manor, cottage, & tudor, outdoor living, courtyards, french doors, venetian plaster, rock & brick combined, exterior shutters, interior shutters, smooth stucco, manicured landscaping, putty colored windows, used brick, teal, neutral organic design, and trees…..just to name a few things that come to mind when I think of Tulsa homes.

I have picked out a few pictures to share with y’all of some of my favorite homes from my hometown, I hope you enjoy!
